I Am Obsessed with Elderberry – Here’s Why You Should Be Too

I have a new favorite supplement that I have begun recommending to clients and will be using, myself, all winter long! Further Food’s Elderberry Soothing Syrup is a delicious syrup that can help us stay healthy and fight off colds and infections naturally, which is going to be key throughout these colder months.

What is elderberry?

Elderberries comprise a variety of blackish-blue berries known for their medicinal properties. Before they end up in a bottle of my favorite elderberry supplement from Further Food, these nutrient-packed, low-calorie, antioxidant-dense berries come from the Sambucus tree. They are said to speed up cold and flu recovery and reduce symptoms, as well as reduce inflammation, support heart health and the immune system, and have antiviral properties that help fight infection—among other benefits.

Benefits of elderberry

Elderberry is rich in anthocyanin, which is the flavonoid that gives berries their dark purple, blue, and red colors. This antioxidant can help stave off diabetes, cancer, inflammation, obesity, and heart disease, and even support healthy immune response and improve the health of your skin. That might explain why anthocyanin is extracted for use in today’s pharmaceutical ingredients. But their benefits are not new knowledge to us. Elderberries have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to support the immune system and to remedy colds and fight infection naturally.

These vitamin C-, dietary fiber-, antioxidant-, and flavonol-rich berries can also improve your appearance. Elderberries can act as a natural diuretic, thus eliminating the fluid retention that causes bloating, resulting in a slimmer waistline. Because they are packed with antioxidants and vitamin A, they can also help fight skin-degradation caused by free radicals. Vitamins C and E in elderberries can also promote healthy skin.

Elderberry has been a godsend for me over the years. It was something that I used regularly when I was diagnosed with cancer because of its cancer-inhibiting properties. It also hinders the growth of the harmful bacteria H. pylori, which I have struggled with in the past. I have numerous clients who suffer from H. pylori overgrowth as well, so I am constantly recommending elderberry syrup to them to help keep the bad bacteria at bay.

Why Further Food is my favorite elderberry supplement

Further Food’s Elderberry Soothing Syrup is my most trusted elderberry supplement. It is the brand I take myself and recommend to my clients. Along with anthocyanin-rich European Haschberg elderberries, this syrup is made with cinnamon, cloves, and honey. A teaspoon of Further Food Elderberry Soothing Syrup not only tastes delicious in my evening cup of tea, it also contains a high dose of vitamin C, which is best known for its natural ability to bolster the body’s immune response.

I love that Further Food’s Elderberry Soothing Syrup is independently lab tested and verified for quality, purity, and potency. It is made in the USA and is gluten-, soy-, dairy-, and alcohol-free (which is what I always look out for in supplements!). It is also absolutely delicious – by far the best elderberry syrup I have ever tasted. It is reminiscent of a spiced cider, just made with elderberries rather than apples. It is great for the entire family, plus it is the lowest in sugar (just 1g) than other elderberry syrups in the market.

As always, be sure to consult with your doctor before taking a new supplement.
