Most people assume aging is something that just happens, like a slow decline written into your DNA. But that’s not the full story. You may be the same age as your high school best friend, but one of you looks and feels ten years younger. Why? The difference often comes down to this:
Biological aging vs. accelerated aging.
And here’s the good news: once you know which one you’re experiencing, you can take action.
First: What’s the Difference?
Chronological age is how many birthdays you’ve had. Biological age is how well your cells are functioning.
Biological age is influenced by lifestyle, nutrition, stress, inflammation, toxins, sleep, movement, hormones, and more. You can’t change your birthday, but you can change how fast or slow your body is aging on the inside.
Are You Aging Faster Than You Think?
Here are some telltale signs of accelerated aging that I see often in clients:
• You’re tired even after 8 hours of sleep
• You have unexplained skin issues or hair thinning
• You’ve gained weight around your midsection (especially without changing your diet)
• You feel more reactive, anxious, or emotionally drained
• Your digestion has slowed down or become more sensitive
• You feel older than you are
If any of these ring true, your body may be waving a flag. Let’s decode what it’s trying to tell you.
The 4 Biggest Drivers of Accelerated Aging
1. Chronic Inflammation
Low-grade inflammation—often called “inflammaging”—is one of the most well-documented drivers of premature aging. It damages cells, tissues, and DNA over time. You can’t always feel it, but it may show up as joint pain, brain fog, bloating, or skin issues.
Tests to run: hs-CRP (C-reactive protein), homocysteine, ferritin, ESR
2. Hormone Imbalance
Declining hormones aren’t just about menopause. Imbalances in cortisol, thyroid, insulin, testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone can speed up aging from the inside out—disrupting energy, sleep, metabolism, and mood.
What to check: full thyroid panel, cortisol, fasting insulin, and full hormone panel
3. Toxic Load
Pesticides, mold, heavy metals, plastics, endocrine disruptors… they build up, bog down your mitochondria, and lead to oxidative stress and cellular breakdown. And our livers are already overloaded!
Signs: fatigue, headaches, skin rashes, sensitivity to smells, sluggish digestion
What to check: heavy metals, liver panel, kidney function panel, hs-CRP, homocysteine
Support: daily greens, binders, infrared sauna, lymphatic movement, targeted detox protocols
4. Blood Sugar & Glycation
Even if you’re not diabetic, frequent spikes in blood sugar can create AGEs (advanced glycation end products)—which literally age your skin, organs, and blood vessels. This is one of the most under-recognized forms of internal aging.
What to watch for: energy crashes, sugar cravings, brain fog, acne or dull skin
What to check: fasting glucose, A1C, fasting insulin
How to Measure Your Biological Age
If you’re curious about your biological age, a few tools can give you real data:
• Epigenetic tests like TruAge or GlycanAge
• Telomere length tests
• Functional labs through my Bloodwork Bundle: we assess inflammation, hormones, detox markers, metabolic health, and more
Remember: it’s not about obsessing over numbers… it’s about having a roadmap. The more you know, the more targeted your support can be.
