Spotlight: Dr. Greger, MD, Author of “How Not to Die”

If there is one thing that almost all of my clients agree on, it is that it is damn near impossible to get a clear-cut answer on pretty much anything health-related these days. And I must say, I agree with them! It seems like one day there is science to show that drinking coffee is bad for you and the next day, a study is published acknowledging the benefits of consuming coffee regularly.

Is it safe to consume all soy or just organic soy? Are GMO foods actually bad for us? Do Paleo and Keto diets really work? These are all examples of questions that, if searched in Google, would receive hundreds of answers. The quest for accurate nutrition and wellness information can be frustrating and exhausting.

Ironically, the overwhelm of information in the health in wellness field is stressing people out and contributing to the problem. Even as a Holistic Nutritionist I need to regularly fact-check information since there is so much conflicting research these days. One incredible resource that I use frequently is Dr. Michael Greger, MD, the author of the book, How Not to Die.

Dr. Greger is an internationally recognized lecturer, physician, and founder of NutritionFacts.org. He is a wealth of nutrition information and all of his material is centered on evidence-based science. He cites the most up-to-date research and he regularly provides several different perspectives on a single topic so you can rest assured that you are receiving a dynamic understanding.

My favorite tools by Dr. Greger are …

NutritionFacts.org

Dr. Greger’s website NutritionFacts.org is a nutritional science goldmine. It contains a library of free educational videos on more than 2,000 health and nutrition topics with more uploaded daily. It also contains live Q & A’s with Dr. Greger, and many of them are super valuable. Another thing I love about the website is that it is completely non-commercial and only relies on individual donors to keep the site alive and thriving.

How Not to Die Book

How Not to Die is one of the best health-related books I have ever read. It exposes the revolutionary scientific evidence behind the only diet that can prevent and reverse many of the causes of disease-related death.

In his book, Dr. Greger discusses the fact that the vast majority of premature deaths can be prevented through easy diet and lifestyle changes. On top of showing what to eat to help treat the top fifteen causes of death, How Not to Die includes Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen- a checklist of the twelve foods we should be eating every day.

The How Not to Die Cookbook

Dr. Greger took his groundbreaking book How Not to Die to another level by developing a cookbook to go along with it. The How Not to Die Cookbook is a beautifully designed, comprehensive cookbook complete with more than 120 recipes for delicious, life-saving, plant-based meals, snacks, and beverages.

NutritionFacts Podcast

I saved my favorite resource of Dr. Greger’s for last: his podcast. I have not missed a NutritionFacts podcast episode in over a year because I am so addicted to it. The bite-sized episodes are typically only 15 minutes, so they are easily digestible and perfect to throw on in the car even if you are just running out for a quick errand.
