These dry winter months has everyone complaining about dry, dull and flaky skin. To combat the dryness, I have created a superfood-based facial treatment using products that I already have at home. Sometimes, you don’t even need those expensive beauty products to make a difference.
Activated Charcoal is one of the first ingredients I use. In my prior blog post, I talked all about how charcoal is used to adsorb toxins and chelate heavy metals in the body. Charcoal is also an amazing little wonder for your complexion. It binds to the impurities in your skin and is a great deep cleaner. It’s beneficial as a toner and perfect for treating those dry patches we experience in the winter months.
Complete your charcoal base with turmeric powder, coconut oil, and rose water.
Turmeric is a hot superfood these days, but for thousands of years, women have been using it for a beauty treatment too. Turmeric possesses anti-aging qualities and is an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory that can calm breakouts. Coconut oil is a hydrating moisturizer that helps restore your pH levels. Rosewater is a natural astringent that fights blemishes. It is also a mild antiseptic that will calm skin irritation, hydrate, and combat inflammation.
I like to finish my facial with a few drops of soothing lavender essential oil. Lavender boosts the flow of oxygen to your skin, so you wake up looking refreshed and glowing. What I really love is the the aroma – it’s calming, soothing and good for the body and soul!
Bonus – It’s great for your teenagers who have acne prone skin!
Ingredients:
2 activated charcoal capsules, open and emptied out
½ T organic coconut oil
½ T rosewater (plus more if needed)
½ tsp ground turmeric powder
3 drops of doTERRA lavender essential oil
Directions:
For best results, steam and lightly exfoliate your skin first.
Combine the charcoal, coconut oil, rosewater, and turmeric until smooth. Add additional drops of rosewater if needed until at a smooth and applicable consistency.
Apply to your freshly cleansed face, avoiding eye area. Allow to sit on your skin for about 15-20 minutes (no longer than 20). Wash with warm water, gently scrubbing in a circle motion.
Finish by applying a thin layer of your favorite lavender essential oil to your skin.
