Rewriting the Story Your Body Remembers

I have to share something deeply powerful that’s been sitting with me since attending Joe Dispenza’s retreat in LA. There was a moment when he said, “Thoughts are the language of the brain, and feelings are the language of the body,” and something in me just… clicked.

We talk a lot about mindset in the wellness space, like how our thoughts can shape our reality. But what we don’t always acknowledge is how our bodies hold onto emotion, how the feeling itself becomes the loop we live in, even if the original event is long gone. When we go through something deeply emotional (a trauma, a betrayal, a loss, even a diagnosis) it changes our internal state so profoundly that the brain stores that experience differently. It doesn’t just become a memory; it becomes a pattern.

Over time, that pattern begins to run in the background… quietly and constantly shaping the way we think, feel, and even how our nervous system, hormones, and immune response function. We stop responding to what’s happening now and start reacting to what happened then. And without even realizing it, we begin to live from that old identity.

I know this because I’ve lived it.

As a child, I completely identified as “the sick kid.” I was tired all the time, foggy, low-energy, and disconnected from my body. And as I grew older, that identity was reinforced again and again: Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, Celiac, cancer. Diagnosis after diagnosis. I built my beliefs around that story – I truly believed I wasn’t meant to thrive! I thought I would always be managing, struggling, trying to keep up…

But here’s what I’ve learned: healing isn’t just about food or supplements or routines (although those things are important). True healing requires going into those emotional imprints, facing the places where the body is still holding onto the past, and reclaiming the story. Today, I don’t see myself as the sick girl. I am someone who is healthy, happy, grounded, thriving, and fully deserving of joy. But that shift didn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of years of inner work, gentle awareness, and a deep commitment to no longer living in the energy of my past experiences.

What did that work look like for me?

It wasn’t a one-size-fits-all process or a quick fix; it was a multifaceted journey of healing that embraced everything from meditation, journaling, and hypnotherapy, to plant medicine, traditional therapy, breath work, and nervous system regulation. I committed to windows of time every single day that would be dedicated to this work, and this work alone. I learned to let go of the constant comparisons with others, the pressure to heal linearly or hit the same milestones as others I knew who were doing this work. Instead, I embraced my unique healing journey, setting my own pace, defining my own goals, and focusing solely on what I needed.

And here’s the most important part: you can do this too.

You can tell a new story. You can feel something entirely new. And when you do, your whole body will begin to shift. And I’m here to support you through it. I’m here to be your sounding board, to hold space for the thoughts you haven’t spoken out loud, and to help you keep going as you dig into those deeper, often hidden patterns that shape how you move through the world.
