One of my favorite parts of my job is answering questions from people on social media! It makes me feel like I’m able to connect with and support my followers, even if they are not yet ready to book a one-on-one virtual session with me. Since there are several questions that I have repeatedly been receiving lately, I decided to compile them in a shortlist for you in case you might share these curiosities.
What’s your favorite greens powder?
AG1 by Athletic Greens is my number one greens powder for many reasons. It contains 75 vitamins, minerals, and whole-food sourced nutrients in one convenient daily serving. It supports your cells in fulfilling their daily healing activities of repair, detox, growth, and regeneration efficiently and effectively.
AG1 is the cleanest greens powder that I have come across. It is NSF certified, which is the gold standard for clean ingredient nutrition. The certification process is exhaustive and involves testing and verification of each ingredient and every finished batch of AG1 (including for heavy metals!).
What is your opinion about bio-identical hormones?
My personal experience with bioidentical hormones has been a very positive one. I went into menopause early at 45, and my hormone levels were very low. They were causing health issues like high anxiety and poor sleep because of the drop in progesterone. I had no stamina or energy and a super low sex drive. As soon as I went on a low dose of bioidenticals, I was like a new human. I had more energy, less mental fog, and a more positive outlook on life. I have been on the same amount of hormones for the last 16 years, and I get tested every three to six months to make sure everything is on track.
It comes down to having a good doctor who monitors you and makes sure you’re not taking too much because that can be an issue. With that said, some practitioners advise against it, so be sure to check with your doctor before you start on bioidenticals to make sure they are right for you.
Your favorite adaptogens, and what do you use them for?
My top 3 adaptogens at the moment include:
1) Holy basil. It is my all-time favorite. It balances hormones throughout the day and lowers inflammation in the gut.
2) Rhodiola. This one helps to reduce physical and mental fatigue.
3) Licorice root. It helps to reduce stress. It’s also great for restoring adrenals. Licorice root also helps reduce inflammation in the intestines.
What are the supplements that I absolutely need to be taking?
There are several supplements that I recommend for almost everyone. They include:
1. Vitamin D: I love Thorne’s Liquid Vitamin D & K2 for boosting energy levels & improving immune function.
2. Omega 3 Fatty Acids: Thorne’s Super EPA Pro is my current favorite. This one is essential for brain health.
3. Magnesium: I recommend BiOptimizers Magnesium Breakthrough. Magnesium is crucial for bone & joint health, blood pressure, and more.
4. Zinc: I love both Eidon Minerals Liquid Ionizer Zinc and Mary Ruth’s Liquid Ionic Zinc. Zinc is important for boosting the immune system.
5. B12: Mary Ruth’s B12 Spray is fantastic for supporting the nervous system, increasing energy, boosting mood, and more.
What do you do for stress reduction?
My top strategies for reducing stress include yoga, meditation, my Higher Dose infrared mat, and reflexology foot massages. I encourage you to try numerous different calm-enhancing practices to see which one(s) resonate the most with you.
Your sleep tips?
Balance your stress during the day! If you stress all day, you can’t expect yourself to destress at night right before bed. I recommend practicing short meditations throughout the day. You should also get sunlight during the day to activate your circadian rhythm. I always turn off all screens by 7 pm. I also love a high dose of magnesium prior to bed for sleep support.
I use The Nue Co. Sleep Drops and a weighted blanket to help me fall asleep and stay asleep longer. Finally, I always make sure to keep the temperature in my bedroom low – around 67 degrees F – for optimal sleep conditions.
How do you detox on a daily basis?
I juice greens each day if possible to help my cells detox. It’s so important to load up on vegetables for nutrients and fiber as your primary strategy for detoxing. I recommend ten servings of veggies per day or optimal detoxing. Hydration is also crucial for detoxification—more on that below.
How much water do you drink?
Honestly, not enough! I am for 100 ounces each day, but I tend to fall short because of how distracted I get with work during the day. I probably get around 70 ounces a day.
Are you vegan, or do you eat meat? If so, what kind and how much?
I am not vegan. I eat about 80/20 plant-based versus animal protein. Whenever I do eat meat, I make sure to only eat clean animal protein.
