 There are so many health terms out there, it’s tough to keep track. A nutritionist is of course someone who’s an expert in nutrition and health, while holistic simply means whole. Although you may think of food and diet, holistic health is so much more than that.

When you focus on body, mind and spirit, an individual is treated as a complete and whole unit. Optimal health is all about balance. If you suffer from chronic migraines and simply take medication from your doctor, you will only mask the issue. Holistic nutritionists dig deeper, uncovering the true cause. Through nutrition, you can significantly impact symptoms of poor health.

When you suffer from any illness, you need to think of reasons why you’re suffering from symptoms x, y and z. Perhaps you’re not sleeping enough? A poor diet is typically the main culprit, but stress and lack of exercise also play vital roles. Once you understand why, you can focus on how you’ll heal and improve.

According to the Council for Responsible Nutrition, the United States population falls short of many nutrients. We are a country that is overfed, yet we are starving for nutrients. Based on data from 16,000 Americans (of all ages), the majority of people are deficient in basic nutrients, such as vitamin A, C, D and E, as well as magnesium and calcium. These nutrients are not even the tip of the iceberg.

Without the nutrients in which your body needs and craves, you will significantly increase your risk of illness and poor health. The human body is remarkable, but it can only do so much. Yes, I am a holistic nutritionist, but I’m also a cancer survivor. I KNOW first-hand, the ways in which your lifestyle and diet directly influence your health. To be honest, most of my clients are eager and motivated, they just lack the nutritional knowledge to truly cleanse their body.
