I keep getting emails from people who are doing my 21-day cleanse wondering if it’s a big deal if they eat two servings of their salad or dinners. I love when people fall in love with healthy food, but I’ve also always encouraged my clients to get in tune with their body and yes, while I’d rather you stuff yourself full of greens than burgers, I’d rather you not stuff yourself at all.
So let the record show, yes there can be too much of a good thing – too much quinoa, too much exercise, too much motivation. The only thing you can’t really get too much of is too much water or too much happiness 😉
As I’ve been getting over this doozy of a sickness I picked up last week, I’ve been breaking the “too much” rule. I’ve been having way too much Tulsi tea. Now, again, not the worst thing in the world to be overdosing on, but I was feeling as though I really needed something new.
I had a turmeric latte from Cafe Gratitude a few weeks ago and totally fell in love. It was everything I could ever want from a drink. I realized what I loved so much from the Tulsi tea was the warming, soothing benefits it filled me with while my throat was sore, my energy was low and my appetite was slim. This was exactly what I needed right now!
I decided I was going to make my own. I started with a turmeric paste, made from mixing boiling water and turmeric powder. I wanted to load up on warming, winter spices such as cinnamon and ginger but I also wanted there to be some powerhouse immunity benefits. I picked up some Astragalus root extract from Erewhon and added that for the ultimate healing drink.
Turmeric is incredibly healing and great for weak, stiff joints, boosting your immunity and helping ease sore throats from a cough or cold. One element I really wanted this drink to have was a good source of fat. You may have heard of the new trend of adding butter to your coffee. I tried and loved this, but I have also been trying to not drink coffee. This sounded like the perfect time to add some butter back into the mix!
I have to say, this was exactly what the doctor ordered. Every part of it was nurturing, delicious and healing. It feels energizing to have in the morning and calming to have at night. I’m in heaven!
I think I have found the right balance, just enough Tulsi tea + just enough turmeric latte = lots of healing.
